Jesuit priests have established many educational institutions spanning from the level of primary schools, colleges to professional courses. Ranchi Jesuit Society also runs many educational institutions in Jharkhand and has impacted the society in a big way specially the underprivileged class. Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) situated at Dr. Camil Bulcke Path, Ranchi is one of premier Business Schools managed by Ranchi Jesuit Society.

The Society wanted to spread its wings in the field of technical education and eventually Xavier Institute of Polytechnic and Technology (XIPT) was established in 2010 at Namkum under the leadership of Chairman, XISS Rev. Fr. Dr. Marianus Joseph Kujur, S.J. and the Secretary, XISS Rev Fr. Dr. Alexius Ekka, S.J.. Prof. Dr. Keny T. Lucas, who was working with XISS in the Department of Information Technology was posted as Principal of XIPT who has been serving the institute since then. Dr. Lucas has earned his Graduation and Post-Graduation from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. He obtained his Doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad. Dr. Lucas is a seasoned professional with rich experience of working with industries and Academia; Projects & Development India Limited, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology, Price Water House Coopers, Birla Institute of Technology and Xavier Institute of Social Service are to name a few.

XIPT emphasises on bringing the underprivileged youth of Jharkhand into mainstream through technical education. The Institute regularly organizes career awareness programs for diploma in engineering and also conducts career counseling for tribal youth. Equal Opportunity Cell of the institute takes care of such youth once they are enrolled in the 3-Year Diploma in Engineering program. In such a short span of time, XIPT has made a niche among the diploma institutes of Jharkhand. 'Xavier' has been a renowned brand in itself in the field of education across the globe. Like other top class Jesuit educational institutions in India, XIPT  inherits the same legacy. The institute realizes diploma engineers to be the actual working hands for the industries and henceforth, XIPT facilitates the students to get the maximum exposure to the applications to theories and hands on experience. undeniably, the Industry-Institute interface programs become paramount to ensure the same. To take it further, XIPT has signed MoUs with various organizations for training of students exposing them to various  trending technologies and industrial practices. Industry Institute Cell, EDP Cell, Institute Innovation Cell, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Equal Opportunity Cell etc. are some of the in-house bodies ensure the students to be future ready. The Lecture sessions by Industry Experts and Industrial Visits have become normal practice at XIPT. The students here at XIPT are groomed to face the realities of business and professional world and to take up the challenges in the respective areas of the their specializations.
